The Montana Historical Society invites you to join us in honoring Ishbinnaachitchish/Pretty Shield, an Apsáalooke woman of influence who lived from 1856 to 1944, was inducted into the Gallery of Outstanding Montanans this year.
Pretty Shield’s legacy is found in her descendants and tribe. She influenced countless individuals in the preservation of culture, the value of family, and the understanding of what life looked like before the reservation. Her descendants include educators, cultural leaders, elected officials, scholars, military veterans, artists, business owners, and philanthropists, who all draw upon her teachings as motivation and inspiration for their success.
On this anniversary of her death, her descendants and state officials will recognize her important role in Montana's history and her community. The interpretative panel in her honor will be hung in the Capitol along with those of the other members of the Gallery of Outstanding Montanans.
