History Lessons from "A River Runs through It" - Presentation by Ken Egan In-Person
Norman Maclean claimed in an interview, “I knew Montana history. There wasn’t any part of the scenery that wasn’t enriched by knowledge of some kind.” The author of A River Runs Through It and Other Stories embedded his tales in the deep history of his beloved Montana home. His stories guide the reader from geologic basement rock to the breakup of Glacial Lake Missoula to the Lewis and Clark Expedition to the displacement of Indigenous peoples to the rise of the Anaconda Copper Company to the emergence of the United States Forest Service to the surge of tourism after World War II. Join literary scholar Ken Egan, Jr., on a journey to see history come alive in the memorable stories of a gifted writer.
